I love it. I can't wait to hop in the PC12, type "Miami" into the computer and sit back and watch a movie.

Maybe for you.

I can fly my own airplane.

Then why do you want a computer to fly for you while you watch a movie?

Just saying

You really don't see a difference between chartering and owning your own plane with an Autopilot on steroids?

Have you ever chartered? To folks who are stuck on commercial it's great. But compared to owning your own plane and being on your own schedule it's a distant 2nd.

You don't have to sell me on owning my own plane. Furthermore I like flying and don't care to turn on a computer so I can take a nap.

That's true for pilot incapacitation in general, in non pressurized aircraft.

When was the last time a fatal accident due to pilot incapacitation in a a non pressurized aircraft occurred that this system would have prevented?

It is VERY rare.

Here is one just a few weeks ago:

http://6abc.com/news/plane-that-crashed ... rs/977785/

It is true that most of the pilot incapacitation incidents are related to oxygen deprivation, so this kind of system would make most sense for pressurized OR turbocharged aircraft. Then again, a system that monitors pilot's inputs and simply initiates a decent to 8,000 ft if no response would do the same thing.

IMHO, the biggest benefit for such system would be for singles in case of engine failure, i.e. XAVION coupled to auto-pilot.

Mike

When did I say you have to want what I want?

Are you just trying to be difficult?

I love this system! There is no reason this could not be brough to market today. I just spent 5 hours with my wife in the Baron. Had I suffered a heart attack she would have likely died also. This system would at least put her on a runway with only needing to apply the brakes. It is a no brainer.

Flying the plane on a long x-country is boring. Would love to have it automated so I could nap or watch a movie.

This is a great idea. When that TBM, N900KN, went down from hypoxia a year or so ago, this would have saved them, Payne Stewart, and others. Some people don't seem like this is a great idea, but they were probably sceptical about the Internet, ABS brakes, glass cockpits, and CAPS. I like this.

Ironically, most Barons don't have brakes on the right

I like this system too. It's not a total solution, but it's an added layer of safety. Heck, if it had to be manually engaged by a passenger it would still be a great safety enhancement.

No control inputs when on autopilot.

Recent examples are cases of incapacitation and flying on autopilot until the plane runs out of fuel.

Mike, you are badly overdue for flying a Cirrus w/Perspective.

The Hypoxia detection system is not obnoxious at all. Used it at FL230, I recall getting one alert in cruise requiring a key press (hint it was not in the Northeast corridor!).

As for autoland, it requires FADEC engine control to be automated. I'm pretty sure the GFC 700 could handle it even without a Radar Altimeter input.

Seems simple. Isn't.

Yes it's pretty simple. This exact thing has been on locomotives for 50+ years.

It looks like pretty amazing technology. Of course many will reject it for all sorts of reasons like the fact that it uses ailerons instead of wing warping. And, of course, regardless of the incredibly technology (and safety record of the manufacturer) it is still, after all, a "plasic airplane".
