Just got quoted a price for 4 new seatbelts and reels. $4 AMU's . Ridiculous. Any ideas? Seems to be no Stcs for the 182S.

Options? Sell the damn thing?

It seems Cessna has a monopoly and no one will touch their seatbelt. This is illegal the last time I checked. Time to go experimental or just buy a Twin Bo.

Check again, monopolies are not illegal.
Check under patents and copyrights to begin with.
The FAA grants virtual monopolies with the certification process.

This is what I hate with the certified market the most - that it promotes, encourages and even sanctions fleecing. It puts the market system out of play. Now, the blame also falls squarely on Cessna. Just because you can, doesn't mean you need to. It's very shortsighted. How many deaths by a 1000 cuts have resulted in people buying their next new plane from Cirrus instead?

It's just bad business in the long run.

Rocky,

I know. I was just taking a historical jab. I would like to be Teddy Roosevelt right now and take a stick to the fine folks in Kansas.

Cessna should be proud that they helped fuel the GA boom and now they are going to kill it. Congratulations. When is the press conference  ? Just one more nail in the coffin.

1). Why do you need to replace the entire restraint system on a new plane

2). Field approval

Try AircraftBelts.com. Probably have to call them to get the exact right thing. But you can also fiddle with their web site to see ballpark pricing on products that are close.

Airplane going part 135. I know, not smart. Just trying to get some more action at the local airport. I expect to lose money. Just trying to do my part to keep aviation going. Plan to instruct out of the airplane also.

The reels seem to be the issue.

You can send ABI the reels and they'll re-web them. Assuming the reels are in OK shape.

You are far better off going Part 134 1/2.

I know 135 is crazy. I really do not need to do it. I want to do it.

Essentially the companies can hold you hostage as you comply with maintenance manual.

To my knowledge there is no other way to do it? You have to comply with maintenance manual.

As I understand it, you just need to be on an approved maintenance program. The factory program is one, but you could (in theory) create your own and have your OpsSpecs reference that.

For anything smaller than CapeAir, I suspect it's cheaper to just bend over to the existing approved program.
