The plastic tubes with shaving gel, or skin cream don't fare so well, though. Unfortunately, I did some field testing of this in my P-baron where I only ascended to FL180. Forgot to empty the tires one trip. Both inner tubes quickly burst when I tried to ride on them. No problemo, I had spare inner tubes. Well, those didn't last long either since the tires had split. Didn't look too cool jogging along side my bike until I could get back to the rental condo and tires replaced. Of course, it was a holiday weekend in a resort area. Bike store was closed until Tuesday after the long weekend. I prefer biking to jogging. 'Course, I was taken it easy, not lettin the sound of the wheels drive me crazy but the girl my lord in the flat bed Ford never came along to take a look at me (These are the 110psi skinny tires for a road bike). Temp may have affected them too.
Dave,
I flew with some deflated tubes in the baggage compartment of the Aerostar. They came apart when we inflated them. So that points to temp being the problem, not pressure. I also know that rubber gets brittle and has issues at extreme temps (I saw one of the cool shows on Discovery dealing with trucks in Siberia a long while ago). No idea what that temp is...

Tim I don't know the science behind this, but I took my bike many places in the P baron; it fit wonderfully in the nose compartment. If I deflated tires for the trip, never had an issue when I later pumped them back up and rode. Of course, not nearly as high as in the Citation. The one trip to Destin, where I didn't deflate them (actually got distracted while loading and forgot) is where they later came apart on me. Never tried it again. Just deflated them and it wasn't an issue.

The Gulfstreams suffer from same hideous McDonnel Douglas-reject design of tail. Look how good a T-tail can look when Ed Swearingen designs it.

The cost to maintain the PC24 tail will be less than the SJ30 because the fin has a larger space for actuators. The SJ30 crammed all those in a thin fin. That gave them the better "look", but it will be a cost driver in maintenance. Think about all the stuff that goes into the horizontal stab: control, trim, deice, etc, and getting all that through the fin into it. Mike C.

Mike C. Umm, Ed didn't do it for looks. I wasn't on the team, but clearly it was an aerodynamic decision. Look at those wings too. Nice and thin. Really makes for a great high speed airfoil. Delayed Critical Mach number. The thing could probably do Mach 2 with the right engines

Username Protected wrote: My first thought was that the gear was at least slightly reminiscent of that on an MU-2! :D No doubt. But with a high wing, there is no other good choice for main gear but into the fuselage. On a low wing jet, the complexity of sticking the gear into the fuselage is stupid, IMO. The gear goes in the wing. Duh. The SJ30 gear strut inflation pressures will be super critical or it will lean easily one side or another. Also, crosswinds will be a bit more wobbly with the narrow gear track. Further complicating that will be the relatively low wing tip clearance. It won't take much roll to scrape wing. Mike C.

Just kidding I agree on the SJ30 and the PC24 that they are good looking. SJ30 certainly has impressive numbers, but the thing has taken so long that it needs to go back to the drawing board on avionics.
