My point is you have to think about the mindset that prevailed when these planes were made. Breaking a wingtip bow or bending a couple tubes is hardly a footnote. In our modern world people fret over having an "accident" and "accident damage" but really, these things are easily broken and just as easily fixed. I've handed the champ to plenty of people to get a tailwheel endorsement, and along the way it's gotten a few dings. I never asked anyone for any money or gave them a hard time, it's just part of the experience. When I was 12 the neighbor had a champ in his barn and he gave my flying lessons. I always looked forward to the day i could do something of the same.
