The VG's don't really improve performance. They lower Vmc which adds a safety margin.

Username Protected wrote: The VG's don't really improve performance. They lower Vmc which adds a safety margin. Well, to the extent that you are willing to rotate at a speed based on VMC (rather than VYSE) then the VG's might help short field takeoffs. 5 kts lower Vr would make a big difference.

I had the Vg on the P and I believe they served a purpose. I've heard in my discussions that the STOl kit is nice too BUT maintenance is required to maintain.. so just another variable.. Personally it's not a need.

I have the RSTOL in my 182 and it has not been touched in 40 years. Handy for bush work.

Is this likely to be different from a normal set of wings? What's different?

Yes I understand the wing is physically different but why would it be maintenance intensive? normal flaps etc rarely need work.

Flaps that run on tracks that run back and down are not and have more moving parts and more wear points. Eventually those parts need to be replaced.
