So Todd, how much are you asking for the Glasair now that you want a Piper?

I am going to see if I can afford both. I really like this plane. Heck I like all of them I have owned! :D

Seriously, though, this plane is a pilot's plane. It is like a fine lightweight high powered rifle. You point and shoot and get a flat trajectory. It is hard to describe until you fly one. The heavy wing loading makes bumps disappear and it looks fast sitting on the ground.

Todd, that's a good description. I love flying my SX. When by myself, nothing comes close. It's faster than the KA 90 I fly from time to time. Frequently see 18-19 NMPG....just incredible.

New engine is done, going to be on it soon, I hope. Would be fun to fly the SX and yours side-by-side.

We will have to do that sometime! I'm hoping for roughly 220 knots true on 13.5 GPH at 11k ft. I was getting 210 knots with the old prop. If I ran the engine at 18 GPH I was getting about 227 knots. I think you are getting about 245 knots, so you will have to wait up on me!

I think you have a little more efficient wing and your cabin size is smaller for less drag. Believe it or not, the cabin in the Glasair is slightly wider than a Bonanza. My wife and I were very comfortable in our 2000 mile round trip to FL along with 100 lbs of bags!

your memory is good. Wasn't thinking of the speeds, just that it would be cool to have pix of them side-by-side.

That would be very cool. Two of the best looking single engine planes in the world IMO. Would be a great picture! Maybe at Max's this spring? I plan on being there in the Glasair.

Panel is nearing completion. They had some fitting issues of the panels. About 2 weeks remaining. The shelf you see below the pilot screen opening will hold the ADHARS units and other stuff for the G3X system. You will simply pop out a screen to have full access. Pretty cool!!

Thanks Luc. We are close. Hope to power everything up late next week. It was a lot more work than expected. The work was so good and so solid from the original install that it took 3x the time estimated just to remove it all properly.

I will need to review my youtube video of me flying it to remind me of what to do!

So envious! (would have put that in green, but it's not sarcastic!)

Todd, I am working on a similar panel upgrade

Did you go GDL39 for the ads-b data in or GDL88?

I'm perplexed by this, all FPL edits have to be on the GTN which pushes to the G3X, but the G3X is what is going to display the GDL39 or XM weather, so unless I buy the GDL69 or GDL88, the GTN's will not have weather, ie., rubber banding or graphical flight plan edits will be on a regular map

Not familiar with the Glasair, but that's typically a bad spot for an OAT sensor. You don't want it in a NACA duct inlet. Mine was in the exact same spot in my RV-7A, and I had nothing but trouble. It read wrong all the time when in motion. Best place is usually on the underside of the wing. You want it:
a) not in an intake duct and
b) not in the prop slip stream

There's a significant amount of discussion on the RV board about that.

Brian,

Do you know for certain that the G3X will work with a GDL-88? The only documentation I could find was for a G3X connected to a GDL39.

Thanks,

Geoff
