Just picked this up:

1961 Cessna 182D Outfitted for backcountry
275 HP P-Ponk engine mod
3 blade McCaulley
Older, higher main gear with 8:00's on the mains
Cessna 206 nose gear fork with 6:00 on nose
Extended baggage mod
Atlee dodge jump seats in back (folds and stows to the side for space)
Plane Power Alt.
BAS shoulder harnesses
Rosens
Nice and straight

Bought this to go to all the Salmon River backcountry strips in Idaho. Life's too short to not hunt and fish this wilderness area.
Looked at taildraggers but wanted something quick and easy for both Andrea and I to fly.

The ground acceleration and climb were fantastic. Cant wait to test the envelope. Took me three days of ground fog in McMinnville to get out of there. Then had to stop in Reno for weather. Rented car. Drove back up there today with chain controls over the summit but got back safely..... but now I have a car in Reno and a Bonanza in Boise. Sometimes, logistics suck.

Now... help me figure out to get rid of the baby blue without painting the whole thing.

Mike,

You are a hell of a guy living the dream.

I know you and Andrea enjoy every minute. You both deserve it.

Will you base this plane at Cascade?

Phil

Yes..... after I fly it a bunch here in Cali this winter. I still need to familiarize and explore the performance limits, practice short field, stalls etc.

Can't go wrong with bright yellow for back country. I love the bird. 182 is on my long term goal for the same setup and reason.
Mark
Btw. Andrea will probably pick the colors right?

Right now... I'm way shorter in the A36.
Practice Practice Practice. I'm just learning where the knobs are.
It was such a hellacious journey to get that thing back, I just need to sleep for awhile.

I had vortex generators on mine and it made a large difference in slow speed handling. You may want to check them out.

aside from the single wheel being attached to the wrong end, I'm hella stoked to buy some gas and have you show me what it can do!

Work up to it slowly.

Do a bunch of FULL stalls. Power on and off.

Then, short final at 1.3 Vso, 1.2 Vso, 1.1 Vso, 1.05 Vso. On that last one, you won't have any energy left for a flare, and pulling back on the yoke will just make you hit hard. At 2 feet off the ground, give it a very slight (2-4 inches MP) goose of throttle, and then pull it back immediately. Talking about one-half second, here. Pull it all the way out. As fast as you can, and you'll touch down softly as the power goes completely out.

Fun stuff!!!

Mike, you will love the 182d. I have Nate Tinkle's old plane and have put about 1000 hrs on in the last 5 yrs. it takes me to all my hunting and fishing spots in New Mexico without fail. A terrific airframe for the job at hand. If I can help, let me know.

Congrats on the new ride Mike. You'll love the utility of it for sure. I agree with the others, VG's is a must. I just put them on my Rans and put them on the Citabria. I could not believe what a difference it made.

As far as the colors, the old school scheme is cool but I think maybe a grey would look good in place of light blue. JMHO.....

I've only gone 30 degree flaps on landing so far......(about 5 landings total)... and the thing drops like a rock... I can't imagine the 40 degree setting. I KNOW it will take a puff of power just about at flair. I plan on doing the exercise you suggest. I did that with the bonanaza and it teaches you much of what you need right away..... thanks
