Until the Tesla can go 400+ miles between charges and recharge in less than 15 minutes I will use gasoline.

How much would you like to wager that the government will tax solar panels YEARLY when they become commonplace? It will be an energy "convenience" charge.

Electric cars make no sense whatsoever. A new Chevy cruise will get 40 MPG and costs $18k. It has a 5-year/100,000 miles warranty as well.

Not everyone can charge their car at home. Sure FL, CA, TX, NM, AZ, and a few other states, but it is not happening country-wide.

Even no full sun solar is getting seriously efficient.

Todd the government is trying to tax reselling to the grid. Happening already. The utility companies are crapping in their pants. You can get your energy cheaper than they are selling it to you.

Electric makes no sense...you kidding me!!!. Chevy cruise (thought is was Cruze) sucks a big one. Telsa can have 7 seats. On a tesla you replace tires and brakes....that's it. You cannot seriously compare a Chevy Cruise with a Tesla.....

Don't go there......chevy cruze....clown car......

Wanna bet on the charging. Solar panels have come a long way man, a seriously long way. Solar energy has also come a seriously long way.

you still not convincing me here....I'll buy your Duke story any day of the week.....your energy story.....no chance....you living in the dark ages!!!

Why would I ever drive 400 miles? That's probably a 7 hour drive with stops vs 2 hrs in the Baron. According to metromile my average miles per day is 17, electric car makes perfect sense. If it wasn't so goofy looking even the Fiat 500e makes sense, funny how people buy cars (and planes) for the 1% mission. If god forbid I need to drive 400 miles, I can rent... I love the idea of never filling up again.

By the way, even though I produce 100% of my electricity with solar, I still have to pay the utility taxes. It's about $5 a month... so you're right about that one!

:coffee:

$80,000? Are you kidding me? How about a brand new Hyundai Equus with a 10/100,000 warranty? The $15k saved will buy you gas for the next 10 years and you can get the car repaired anywhere.

The Tesla is a neat concept. When they are priced correctly and can go 400+ miles and 15 minutes to charge I might want one also. Until then it is just a neat toy for the rich to show off.

A 400 mi range would be without using the ÀC or heating otherwise you would be cutting the useable range.by 1/2

you fly/flew/will fly again... a duke, you'e loaded to the gills here man.

Ok, so I'll bite......... that brand new Hyundai Equus (first of all get another name) cost say maybe 50/60k. Then you got depreciation and maintenance as well as gasoline.

Electric don't have none of those combustion problems. Agreed that the price is a little steep, but the Tesla smokes the Epuus in drivability......they're not even close. After all is said and done, you'll come out even in total capital outlay over 5 years but I'd wager that the Tesla will hold it's value better. No way I'm buying a 2nd hand Eluus for more than 10k!!

Hyundai

Michael,

What the hell are you talking about?

What reputation has Tesla built in the few years they been in business???

The Equus is much more car than the S and the gas burned is virtually nothing compared to the cost of the vehicle.

Show me what a 10-year-old S looks like and how well it has held up.

That Hyundai is a better car than a new S550 and it has a better warranty.

The electricity is NOT cheaper than gas unless you have solar at your home and it is still not a car you can load up and drive across the country in. Not everyone has a Baron is their hangar when they need to go more than a few hundred miles. $80k for a car that cannot be driven distance is a joke.

Come on Todd sugarcoat it just a little.... :)

My rub is as long as we make electricity from fossil fuels it makes no sense. And for every kilowatt of wind power we build we have to build a Natural Gas Peak demand facility.

Natural gas is the future... IMHO again. Clean Plentiful, renewable, (Cows make it) And lots of it that doesnt get burned to make energy ends up venting into the atmosphere naturally....

Coal, natural gas, Nuclear, etc are all good. Politics is the factor determining what we ultimately use. Haas NOTHING to do with the environment. You can burn coal cleanly.

You're trying to sell one of them Ewuus Hyundai's aren't ya?

I'd take that G58 EGE version once it got to 400 miles. Superchargers will reduce that 4 hours to 30 minutes.

Now you know that there is a super charger network for traversing the country so you can go more than 800 miles. Not like pulling up to a gas station and drinking all that filthy oil
S model is highly, highly rated and reviewed. Roadster's still look great 6 years in.

Anyways before you get anymore wound up here you just need to fly on down and I'll take you out for a cold one to get rid of that stress you bottling up!!!

Just so you know, I also have an e350 Econoline for transporting all my damn kids. It's not for sale though!!

:whiteflag: :whiteflag:

you gonna call 'Uncle' here?

Actually one of the worlds largest Solar plants can also use natural gas instead of solar. Evening hours as well as Peak hours.

The nice thing about electric is the user can choose how they get their energy. With fossil fuels you have no choice.

There are 60 used Teslas in the COUNTRY listed on Autotrader.com Two of them have mileage in the 40s, some in the 20s and the rest in the teens or less. Pure toy car. The 2008 with 45k is $55k. New 2014 Corvette is the same money with a better warranty and it gets over 30 MPG. 6 years from now the Vette will be worth $30k, so your lose $25k. The Tesla owner is losing $45k+ and can only go about 150-200 miles maximum. Makes no sense.

Roadster is a two seat play car. Model S, not a chance. It's a serious car. Can only go about 200 miles without needing a recharge.

When we're sitting in our rocking chairs many moons in the future discussing how much better the 421 was compared to the Duke and marvelling how the new G58 EGE gets 2,000 miles to a charge, I'll bring this all back up to you....

until then go drive a Tesla S model. Report back to me. If you hate it, I'll fly to where ever you are and I'll test drive the new vette. Hell, I'll even buy me some cowboy boots just to cement the experience!

The Teslas are an exhilarating car to drive! The smooth and seemingly unending acceleration is breathtaking!!! But I surely wouldn't buy one... For anything other than a toy....
