This thread raises an interesting question.

Would you be interested in adding a BRS to your Bonanza?

If so, how much would you be willing to pay?

Please answer the poll above....

I would not spend the money to put one in, on the other hand, my wife who travels with me all of the time has a strong fear that I am going to drop dead (hopefully not from poison) while in flight. She knows it is not very rationale, but it is always there for her. I would assume that a chute would give her great comfort. I wonder how many Cirrus' were sold based on this.

I put $30k. I might have spent more to keep my v-tail, but at some point, *I* obviously had a point that I was willing to go to a Cirrus. More than $30k, and I would have at least shopped. $30k or less, and I think I would've had it installed and kept on trucking.

Although not necessarily a fan of the chute, I don't have anything against it. I would do it for piece of mind of my passengers that aren't pilots. The trauma of having a family member have to deal with a medical issue of mine in flight is not a pleasant thought.

I chose the option that I'm not interested not necessarily because of the cost (I'm spending money to add airbags) but because of weight, CG, maintenance and ongoing certification cost of the system..

I personally think the amsafe airbags are a better value and I believe you still have two days to get the 1 amu discount. Put your order in soon.

I put not interested, but that's not a vote against the system. I'd rather buy an older SR22 than modify the V35. If I needed six seats, I'd have put a number in the $30k range.

The variable in this poll is the number of seats/room in the airframe.

4 seater = buy a Cirrus if I wanted a chute

6 seater = no chute option available on the market

I don't believe it will ever happen. The biggest reason for that is that since Bonanza is no longer being built the customer base is kind of limited (and shrinking by day). Without support and revenue stream coming from OEM installation the cost of certification probably will never pay off.

How many will they sell at $30k mark - 100? If that many.

I might be tempted at that price point. You are committing to 1 AMU per year ongoing cost. My concern would be rear CG issues. If they could figure out how to put it in the spinner and add 20 pounds out front, I would sign up today.

This of course would help unless you had a prop or crank failure in which case it might not be such a great concept.

Let's get a few hundred votes on this poll.

Interesting results so far.

For those of you who fly with their non-pilot spouse, I STRONGLY recommend a pinch-hitter course.

We did it and SWMBO can fly, land and communicate from the right seat.

She has no interest in a license, but has a strong interest in living should I croak whilst in the left seat.

It wasn't that large of an investment and it only took a few weekends to accomplish.

I let her land often to keep her sharp.

Of course, my landings are crap now.

Very interesting.

60% of BeechTalkers would add a parachute...

My wife absolutely refuses to have anything to do with any control in the airplane. OTH she hasn't expressed any reservations about the single engine or my personal incapacitation.

This would be an easy sell to most of the spouses, I think.

I'm one of them. I wouldn't buy an airplane just because it has a parachute, but if it was practical to add one to my Bonanza, why not?

Unfortunately, I doubt that it ever will be practical given not only the initial cost but also the impact on W&B and maintenance costs.

I agree, Tracy.

By the way, a BRS 'chute is available for many types of Experimentals, including the RV-7 and RV-9 (but not for my -6).

$10,247 and 44.4 pounds... http://www.pilotshop.com/catalog/appage ... 7Aod-EcArw
