I am looking forward to 20 years from now when there will be a bunch of depreciated TBMs and Vision jets on the market. I hope we dont run out of crude to cook into middle distillates until then :D (if we do, we'll have to fly on algae-oil or chicken renderings by then).


We have plenty of clean crude/nat. gas coming out of the Eagle Ford Shale Reserve in Texas just south of my location. They have really ramped up production. There's plenty of fossil fuels to use, we don't have to worry about quantity for a while, it is speculation that is gonna hurt the pocket book. :bat:

I don't think it will have much of an impact. The price differential is pretty significant. If anything knowing that Socata is going to continue to develop the product should help keep used prices more stable. I hope I am wrong... :D

I dont think it will do much to the earlier models (up to the C2). Once they start becoming available at the dealers the most recent 850s may feel it.

Someone who can spend a 1.2-2 on 700 is not in the market for a new plane for almost 4 (maybe in the market for a newer Meridian in the low 2s).

It wont change much as these new TBM 900 are $3.7m.
Thats why the C2 market is staying strong at $1.5-1.6m for the same payload with 15-20 kts slower cruise.
It will probably put more 850 on the market as some owners will upgrade to the newest.

No trailing gear and no Fadec.
There is a semi auto start, not sure what that means but I heard it stops the starter after 30 secs. Not sure again if it cuts the fuel before you overtemps.

No FADEC, same trunnions. About the only change on MLG's is an extra gear door closeout panel to cover wheel/tire assembly for reduced drag, but still no FADEC. As you see in the pictures, the pedestal is redesigned offering an almost fool proof start up sequence, "h" pattern throttle quadrant with no individual prop control lever. Very neat indeed. And, with the 300 amp starter and new power box, they are stating 18 to 19 second starts. Much shorter than previous models. The battery will now be tied when using a GPU, so you will have the GPU plus the battery amps as extra capacity for fast, cool starts!

edit: Also trailing link wouldn't make sense to me, since the TBM can land pretty slow. It would be pretty cool though, maybe the next version :shrug:

Marc,

Perhaps you're referring to the new 300amp vs older 200amp starter/generator. It reduces start times to 30 seconds (half that with a GPU) and automatically shuts down when Ng reaches 50%.

I think there is also a single lever control, the prop is auto controlled to run at 2000.

Either way, with the Cirrus Jet and this TBM you're really stacking the marketplace with ridiculously fast and efficient, easy to fly airplanes. There's lot's of innovation going on in GA. The only thing left is to get these things to fly themselves. This is a great time to be in GA.

I work for Cutter in San Antonio, TX. Like I said we are a Honda jet Service Center, but so are the other Cutter facilities. I think the maintenance for Honda Jet will pass over SA to get to Addision, TX and Cutter Pheonix. It has to do with a contract agreement of Honda wanting the Jet to have its own hanger space for display and while being maintained. We just don't have the room to do that, at least right now, unless something changes. You are right, its great time for high tech GA!!!

It is certainly true that innovation is taking place in GA. The Cirrus Jet and TBM 900 appear to be efficient and designed to be easy to fly.
What is missing is this equation is the cost parameter: could a manufacturer deliver ease and efficiency at an "affordable" price?
I realize that affordable is a relative term. If a manufacturer could use cheap labor (China) using reliable design (a la Apple: designed in California, built using cheap labor in China), why can't such an airframe be produced for a more attractive (i.e. much lower) price? :scratch:
