P.S.: I tried to embed these videos, but that remains one of the unsolved mysteries in life for me. Yes, I found the How-To instructions, I just cannot seem to make them work.

I figured the explanation of getting washed on Mondays was tongue-in-cheek. They did the same thing at an air show for a retiring pilot. Unfortunately the fire truck was too close and had trouble getting the spray on the aircraft as it taxied by.

Interesting how the FO messed up the read-backs a couple of times and the captain was like :bang:.. We all make mistakes, even an A380 Pilot

The captain makes a little screw up once too. He dials in a heading assigned by ATC, then the first officer barks that NAV mode is still engaged.

I drive an ARFF truck at KHOU (Houston Hobby), and we try to do water arches for pilots on their retirement flights- providing the carrier lets us know at least 15 min in advance to set up.

I wonder where that tradition originated. I have been on board of two flights that received the water arches, once in Appleton, WI celebrating the retirement of the Avro captain.

Maybe if he would have allowed the autopilot to land by itself the plane wouldn't have kept on calling the captain a retard right at the flare.

There must be some regulation that the Airbus is required to let the human land it once a month or something.

This is way cool.

A380 first landing at SFO – (San Francisco International Airport )

The pilots sit away from everything, no yoke, etc. Captain pulls up a keyboard once in a while to enter info but the plane does most of the work.

They were hand-flying for the landing. Not much different than most other airliners.

Great video, terrific distraction from doing work.

Best part - THe Captain's reaction when he KNEW he was going to be given the ILS (thank you Asiana), then was given the visual, only to have it changed to the ILS.

Thanks for the video!

The A380 is awesome! Here are a few photos I took at the Paris Air Show a few years ago.

Even though the A380 is a Super Heavy aircraft is flies just like everything else, you just have to flare at a higher altitude. As for the Captain landing the aircraft , all commercial pilots for the most part hand fly the landings. To do an autoland in wx that is above CAT I minimums you have to make sure the ILS area is clear and inform the controller that you are doing an autoland. You do have to accomplish a certain number of autolands to stay qualified but you can always do them on your six or twelve month checkrides. :D
