I asked what part was untruthful.

The selective use of truth to create a false impression.

The 60 minutes story would lead one to believe Allegiant is operating differently and dangerously from other US airlines. In all likelihood, their practices and record is not that different from many others and an objective analysis would probably show they are not that much of an outlier.

Mike C.

It is operating differently, thats the entire point not only does it operate differently it does not fully cooperate as others do, and certainly not fire a pilot for doing his job correctly.

Is it more dangerous than other carriers? Who knows but the number of incidents per flight ratio seems to indicate that and when you have FAA officials publicly say they will not fly them certainly should raise some eyebrows.

People in general just check for one thing, the cheap cheap cheapest ticket they can find.
Then they get on. Business travelers and savvy travelers look for service and a way to get miles and upgrades.

Did you study the others to be sure?

Cooperate with what?

Nearly all US airlines have pilots who have claimed that at one time or another.

What are those numbers for Allegiant and other airlines?

I'm happy to condemn Allegiant, but I want comparative data that is well researched with which to do it. A 60 Minutes report isn't it.

Last year, Allegiant flew 11 billion passenger miles. It has yet to have a fatal accident in its entire 20 year history. Southwest, which flies about 12 times the passenger miles as Allegiant, has had two fatal accidents. Fortunately, the fatal accident rate among US airlines is so low that statistical assessment is not doable.

Absolutely. The tyranny of the masses. Race for the bottom. The system has proven the lowest price is the main thing that drives purchase decisions. Hence Ryan Air, Allegiant, and even Southwest.

It is funny to think that Southwest now prides itself on the better service it provides. Basically, nothing changed except everybody else got worse! For example, bag fees.

I freely admit that I've had a hard time trusting the objectivity of 60 Minutes ever since the Audi debacle (in which their principal source was the "Audi Victims' Network," a group of plaintiffs' lawyers trying to get big contingent fee wins).

CBS cherry-picked and "groomed" data in the Allegiant story, plain and simple.

Interesting analysis:

Here's a pretty good analysis. http://crankyflier.com/2018/04/30/quest ... ant-story/
