Nope and he planned it that way. As we hiked back from river, there was an overlook of the strip and you could clearly see the Cessna shining in the sunrise, the Cherokee not so much. He was thrilled.

Hunting season is over so time for sightseeing.

Yesterday's flight into Lower Loon, a 1200' one way strip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Had a nice soak in the hot spring up the Loon Creek trail. We saw plenty of deer and about 8 bighorn sheep up in the rocks.

There is some typical ridge flying toward the end of the video. On one snowy spine, you can see a herd of elk lounging in the snow. A bit more difficult to see is a nice bull elk on another spine.

Nice place.

What a great day, Mike. Too bad you don't know you can't fly the backcountry in a nose dragger.

My good friend Brad (fellow BTr and neighbor) needed some relaxing flying before his PPL checkride in a couple days. So, we decided to fly the mountain behind our homes..

Nice zero wind day, crisp and cold. We even managed to find his son and buddies snowmachining on top.

Fun flight.

Very nice, Mike. That area on top with the snowmachine trails is beautiful! Can't wait to get there in February.

That is wonderful Mike.

I should have pointed the nose north. I was just south of you, dealing with the inversion as I prepared to go into Nampa this weekend.

Glad you're living the dream!

Yep, Andrea just drove down there for work. She reports a solid inversion overcast.

I told her it was sparkling clear up here........which was a mistake.

Great video, Mike. I have sledded on that mountain many times however, it has been a few years ago. Thanks for sharing.

Mike, sledding looks good up there. How much snow is up there? We have missed the big storms here in the Central Colorado Rockies. Our 6 ski areas here in the County have very limited terrain open.

I'm still waiting to start grooming our snowmobile trails here. Flew yesterday and still a lot of dirt on our lower trail systems. Some people are driving up to here we have a little snow cover and unloading. Our snotel site is at 10,500 and shows a 7 inch base.
Ron

Maybe 18 inches to 24 inches on top. About 4-6 inches at base.
Thankfully is very cold which is preserving what we have but we need more.
The lake finally froze over.
The snowmachining on top (in the video) is spectacular.
