Powdercoat them. Not worth the time or money to do anything else, especially in winter conditions.

Not that I've seen that I like the look of. I'm getting factory wheels, which I like the look of, just not the color, for about $400. Powder coat for another $300 or so, and I'm into them for $750. That seems OK to me.

What about some take offs? Lots of these on the Corvette boards.

New GM wheels from this company. Looks like they can sell a new set of black wheels for $900.

Brad,

Not an expert here. Only conveying information that one of the paint engineers at Altec (a boom truck mfr here in Saint Joseph) told me once.

He said that the most durable method of powder coating is to first prime the object with spray primer then powder coat it.

Said that during baking, the melted powder tends to pull away from the sharp corners and makes the covering coat very thin. Once a small chink in the armor develops in a powder coat layer it rapidly peels off. Apparently spray primer tends to build up on the corners of objects due to surface tension. This coupled with a thin layer of powder on the same area is the best way to make sure that a chink does not develop at said corner.

Claims that you can almost take a hammer to the coating without it coming off.

I picked up the wheels tonight. I'm now contemplating leaving them silver, thinking they might look cleaner in the winter when all the garbage salt and such starts to collect.

Plasti-Dip it. $20 all the way around and if it looks bad, touch it up with the rattle can to a new finish. Stupid easy and cheap.

My son, who drives a ZR1, bought a Ford Ranger to drive in the winter.

I'd like to have a beater to drive in the winter, but I have a 2-car garage, a small, odd-shaped driveway and my wife isn't fond of the idea of having a car parked in the street. It may ultimately come to that, though.
