I did not know who he was. The link is a good read. Maybe he flew your bat for his school.

That is very cool. I used Kershner's book when I was getting my private. He is a talented and funny writer.

Your plane still look like that? If so - quite cool. If not, post a photo.

Still a great story

Yeah that was at Oshkosh this year. If you look at Kershner's Basic Aerobatic Manual, the charts in the spins section reference N9880J. He must have used my plane to gather the data for the book.

I just joined the Cessna 150 club and Catherine of Ace Aerobatic School recognized what I had.

Here's a several turn spin I did.

:bugeye:

No kidding! That's using the term "several" quite loosely.

Why was the prop stopped, btw?

Is that the emergency descent procedure published in the POH?

Fuel all goes to the outside. The Aerobat is just a little extra structure, no aerobatic fuel or oil systems.

I practiced restarting really high earlier and picked out a landing spot ahead of time. I climbed as high as the plane would go, ~12,500' and then started the spin and just watched my altimeter, recovered at 4000' and had the engine going and climbing again by 3000' terrain is less than 1000'

Spins are in the "normal procedures" section of the POH, although it says "for training 1 to 2 turns is adequate.

I think I counted 50 turns as the sun went by.
Pretty quickly initially.

Could you change the rate of spin with controll inputs?

I soloed in an Aerobat that had a hundred hours on it, and later found out it was "hot"
Block rented dry at $9.00/hour

I used to be one of two designated CFIs that did spin training for CFI candidates. I've seen more than enough for me, thank you.

Actually, I read somewhere back in the golden age, they'd teach spinning down through an overcast as a way to get through a layer without losing control. I'd imagine you'd want to make sure the ceiling was high enough for a recovery....

Still, when I win the Megaball, an Aerobat is going to sit in my hangar next to my Skipper.

Best,
Rich

My local FBO has an Aerobat. Lost count of how many times I've spun it, but never from 12,500!
It takes the underpowered little funster a long time to get to half that height.

Did you log cross country time getting it that high?
