I have broken two alternator bolts in 50 hours on a 100 SMOH GTSIO. Thoughts?

Call Tony Saxton TAS aviation.

That is not good.

Watch that torsional damper disc very closely for heat signature. Vibration in a GTSIO is not normal.

Charles, I've seen you land, it's not your landings :D

It's the bolt in the housing (holding the alternator together) not the bolt holding the alternator to the engine. There differential diagnosis seems to be
1) alternator shaking itself apart
2) engine shaking alternator apart

If #1 (which apparently the original style ALV9510R prestolite units I have are somewhat prone to) then replacing with the newer lightweight 9610 may help. This was Tony's suggestion

#2 may still be possible, but #1 is the least invasive option to start - try that and see how it goes.

I had great luck with the 9610s. More output and more reliable.

Fingers crossed.
