Uhhh...mmmm I know someone well that tried a go-around in a II with speed brakes deployed and didn't quite get to 85%. Quite the struggle with the yoke to keep the nose where it needed to be until brakes were retracted. Good feature! Not great CRM on that one.

No, not running up power. Just a quick flip up and back of the throttle level to trigger retraction of the speed brakes.

And it’s either lever. I alternate flight to flight by using the one I started first.

Great.

Does anyone have a checklist created for the II (or similar)? The factory checklist is too wordy and the abbreviated checklist has some holes. If not, lets make one here.

Same in the Mustang. It’s on the pre-taxi checklist. Speedbrake retraction is triggered by throttle lever angle.

Are you running up to 85% pre-taxi?

SB retract is based on throttle position, not actual 85% N2. You just move throttle up an back to engage the micro-switch. The engine does not rev up much during that.

Several legs adding in the 85% test. I recognized that sound as soon as I did it for the first time. A BTer has volunteered to help with a checklist. Looking forward to those results.

Crossed 100 hrs PIC in the II over Denver at FL370 last night. 130 TiT now. 72 in the last 60 days. Feelin’ current. Many approaches, mountains, night, weather, international, shorter strips, etc. Its been a great experience. Livin’ the dream :D

Last night

Leg 1 - FL360 - electrical burning smell. Searched cockpit for smoke, lights on, asked PAX if they could smell, found nothing, smell subsided, reviewed QRH for smoke and electrical fire procedures.

Leg 2 - FL360 - strong smell of rubbing alcohol. Looked for movement in passengers - nothing. FO did not smell. EFIS flicker, strong smell of rubbing alcohol, screen failure. FO smelled.

Got block 350-370. Pulled EFIS breaker and hand flew copilot side. Let FO handfly a bit while putting on harness and gettin portable SVT relocated. Transfered AP to copilot side, got us back on course and alt handflying, reengaged AP on #2, HDG mode only. No horizon or moon. All good. Tried resetting breaker once. Strong burn smell immediately. $$$. :)

20’ above touchdown, windows fogged (with Defog on), landed and rolled out with runway lights similar to snowstorm approach. 4am.

Livin’ the dream

Jesse, what kind of EFIS failed on the left? Was it Sandal gear or Sperry? I thought all the original gear for those Citations was mechanical.

How much of a help was the second pilot?

None of my business but what are you doing flying around in the middle of the night? :peace:

Great. Plane I’m looking at with deep interest (LJ31A). That’s all they have is Honeywell/BK EFIS which I hear is notorious. And expensive to replace. Way to handle JJ.

Unkown electrical burning smell that comes and disappears is likely a fan motor that burnt out then failed.

Rubbing alcohol smell is likely overheating electronics and capacitors that then failed in the EFIS.

The EFIS was replaced less than 2 years ago. The price wasn’t memorable I’m told. We’ll see.

Apparently they do have some form of a degenerate maintenance plan. Sorta like CASP and RC. They told me each unit was about $6-8K to replace. Reminds me of about 10 years ago Im at a maintenance center in Brunswick Ga. They're working on Trumps (707?) I ask the pilots and mechanics about EFIS. They said they much preferred steam. One EFIS AHARS the plane was AOG and out $50K. Steam. redundancy and out maybe $2K.

Going to play you're going to pay.
