1) Any type rated guy can act as the trainer in the aircraft he is typed in if it is for SIC training purposes. Don't even need an ATP. I knew this from another post on BT. Signed a guy off and the FSDO was fine with it.
2) Mike C is correct that the SPE requires the pilot who is acting a a SP PIC must sit left seat.
3)No one I have talked with has been able to answer whether or not the SIC trainer must be seated in the left seat.
4) Allen W is likely right that insurance has a preference.
I like it. A real brain teaser. Also, the “SIC Training flights” have to be just that, training flights (no pax and day VFR or day IFR) correct? I’m guessing that the training can be done from either seat. You aren’t exercising your SPE or SP privileges at that point, you are a multi pilot crew with an SIC in training. I’d just ask your FSDO.

Thank goodness there is a part 91. It allows us to use common sense and good ADM to operate our airplanes.
I sometimes wonder about the people who buy a jet and hire a pilot. Do they understand the difference in safety between part 91 and part 121.
Part 91 can be as safe as part 121 but it is up to the owner to operate it that way.
Most owners who are new to jet ownership and are non pilots have no idea what the differences are.
The SIC certification is just one example.

Any interest? Sounds great until we're all hungover and miss our sim sessions.

Sort of a remake of the High school one... Funny, I had nightmares that I MADE my sim session! The bed is a bundle of paradoxes: we go to it with reluctance, yet we quit it with regret; we make up our minds every night to leave it early, but we make up our bodies every morning to keep it late. I have had 2 occasions where the instructor thought I was a pro pilot and treated me totally different once he found out that I was writing the checks. I asked him not to treat my sim session any differently. Second occasion, I had an instructor be pretty hard on me for being about 10 minutes late (I’m full service so I get as many sim sessions as I can stand). I apologized but he wouldn’t let it go. Then he found out I was cutting the check and wouldn’t stop apologizing. Right or wrong, I don’t think they view everyone as customers.

I assumed the OP was writing the check. And yes they treat pros and owners differently.

Got a PM from Chri$ Dipo1a looking for some Citation time. Had a trip planned. So Chris flew to KSAW to join me for a 7 leg trip over 48 hours. I have seen this look before...I swear the SIM schools should be paying me to do God’s work.
