This all reminds me of that book " I Love You, Your Perfect, Now Change". Personally I am going to keep wearing my Hawaiian shirts until they come back in style!

This video is really different from that which I normally post. This was a trip from KFSM (Fort Smith Ark) to Scottsdale. The right seater is a next door neighbor who is a retired US Air Force F4 pilot and a retired American Airlines captain with time in the 727,767,777 and Super MD80.

We get into a conversation approaching our cruise of FL320. It opens up with him describing breaking the sound barrier and flying at Mach 2.4.

You might find it boring but I found it pretty interesting listening to his experiences.

Cool Mark, thanks for sharing.
I'll never experience Mach 1 or more at the controls, but it's sure neat to hear it told
Ike this.

I find it interesting how when he is flying it from the right seat, you don't sound like your usual this is your captain speaking iceman Mark. You can tell this is not your normal.

I don't feel quite so accomplished sitting next to him. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Riddle me this gents. ...flying the Lucki1 arrival into KSAN. Over HOGGZ I was cleared direct KMRAA descend and maintain 240. Before KRMAA I am given the following....delete speed restrictions and descend via the SID accept to maintain 10k.

What should i do? When can I be at 10k?

Mark,
I would cross JJACK at 10.5 and then be at 10 before the next fix and then hold 10

Meet all altitude restrictions between KRMAA and JACCK, and descend to 10,000'. In other words, cross JACCK at or below 11,000' and descend to 10,000' at your leisure until given a lower altitude.

I'm not sure I really understand your question since it seems pretty straightforward. But, does this answer your question??

I took it to be a clearance to 10k while following the SID. Had he said descend via the SID except maintain 10k at JACKK I would understood better. The "except maintain" threw me off.

Got it.

From the FAA descend via FAQ:

Quote:
Q. I am cleared to “descend via” a STAR, but the controller adds “EXCEPT MAINTAIN (Altitude).” What altitude am I cleared to and do I have to comply with published altitude restrictions during my descent?
A. You must comply with all published altitude and speed constraints until reaching the assigned altitude, unless explicitly cancelled by ATC.
