Nope. Spin training is excluded from chute requirement.

While that's true no way no how is that spin training.

I was just discussing this, the spin testing is required for utility category, the FAR is phrased "Spins and other flight maneuvers required by the regulations for any certificate or rating". Does a type certificate count?

Is the "certified" completely assembled? That seems an remarkably small difference in price. A completed, certified plane for 465eu = 620K$ would be competitive, but not off the curve. Performance looks better than say a Mooney Ovation, but not wildly different.

Panthera price list from the Pipistrel Canada website: http://www.pipistrel.ca/resources/PDF-p ... a-2014.pdf

€425K (IO540 & avionics) with factory build assist
€465K for the certified version (no details on avionics)

The price difference is smaller than I expected, but I'd bet that things will change before Pipistrel actually gets to the kit/certified cost.

I wonder if the baggage area is segregated from the cabin, or if the back seats could be removed/folded to make a 2+2 configuration. Hopefully the latter. A door at the bottom of the baggage area makes for sub-optimal loading, whereas their nice big back seat door would be great, if the entire area could be cargo.

It looks to me like the baggage configuration is about the same as a DA-40, which is to say that you'll need to give up one of the seats for significant baggage.

Still, how often do you take more than 3 people on more than one overnight?

US aircraft industry is finished, no way to compete with this. I guess Cessna will still crank out 206 since there is nothing to compete with it but in the 4 place market our industry is toast if this plane delivers.

Maybe this would put the pressure on Raytheon. They own Cessna, Columbia (cessna 400) and now Beechcraft. A brand new g1000 turbo 182 was 335k back in 2005. Today, a new T182 is over 500k - not sure of the actual price because they started messing around with diesel and pulled the gas powered version off the market for a while... But I digress.
My point is that the 2014 turbo 182 and the 2005 version are basically the same plane. But - the initial investment in tooling and certification was paid for a long time ago. Why does the plane cost 200k more today? The price of entry to GA is insane and these guys aren't helping.
We need the competition.

I could not agree more. The pricing structure of GA is way outside market forces. What is now even more absurd is the continuing cost. So lets say you can stroke the check or pay the note on a $700,000 4 seat plane with a 70 year old engine design and no baggage space, the price of owning and flying the plane will still run $30,000 to $60,000 per year. These new glass systems are nice but ridiculously expensive to repair and maintain. At least the old legacy systems do not require $800 to $1000 software upgrades and can be fixed on the bench. My iPad has more technology than that fancy Garmin system and it costs $500 and does not break and performs its own upgrades for free. I will tell you even if I was able to be in this market, which I am not, I still would not incur these costs.

I love that it has retractable landing gear. So much sexier in flight.

A bit old, but Plane & Pilot did a long feature on the Panthera in February.

First serially-made Panthera 540 delivered
We are proud to announce that the serial production of Panthera IO-540 flying with a Permit-to-Fly is now in full swing. A while ago we delivered the first serially-produced model and the happy owner let us take some amazing air-to-air photos of his flying beauty together with one of her older “sisters”.

My motivation to get my IR-ticket just got a lot higher :)
Just a beautiful airframe!

Looking forward to a 3rd party review of the airplane. Interested if their approach to cowl ventilation / engine cooling works.

Gorgeous airplane.

Really excited to see where this goes - I hope it's a winner.

Any idea what the price will be? I would guess just less than SR22?

Pipestrel had one of the better aerodynamicists in the industry. I saw him most recently at a Silicon Valley aircraft start-up.

Good to hear this, as we supply to them for this aircraft. I did not see it in other news

I don't see how they can integrate deice into these gorgeous wings but otherwise it's truly an amazing aircraft if it really hits 200knots in cruise with the stated payload.

Love it - want to take that cowl and put it on my Bonanza.
