Diamond just announced the development of the DA62, a 5-place, larger twin than the existing DA42.

http://www.diamond-air.at/twin-engine-a ... /da62.html

http://www.flyingmag.com/aircraft/pisto ... MjU1OTA1S0

Of course we all know '5-place' mean more like a roomy 4-place but it seems like a noteworthy development since I've always personally felt like the DA42 was a cramped 4 seater. No specs seem to be available yet but perhaps the DA62 will be a legit 4-seater with a practical UL for 4 pax.

Does anyone have any additional intel?

No offense to anyone who owns a diamond. I hear they are great airplanes but man they have zero artistic lines at all. It looks like a goose head with wings....

I learned to fly in a DA20 and DA40. Great fun planes to fly but I always refer to them as "Flying Sperm."

I'm not a big fan of DA42's but the 62 is a good looking bird in my book:

Wow diamond has a whole line now! You can go from the DA40 to the DA52 to the DA62 and even step up to the D-Jet when you are ready!

Without pressurisation and de-ice, they have no business. Nobody is going to spend $900K without that when the place is littered with good used MU-2's, Aerostars, 58P's etc for a fraction of the cost. The USP is to have that - diesel and all weather. Then they have an in.

I must admit that I really liked flying the DA20 and DA40. Definitely look like flying sperm, but very nice aircraft.

I won't knock a manufacturer for actually entering the GA market and selling new airplanes.

Actually the DA42 VI production is booked for the year based posts in another forum. Fully loaded, this is about $1.1M :bugeye:

Diamond is pretty good in the 'announcing stuff' business and not so good in he 'delivering stuff' business.

Didn't they just announce a turbine using hardware from a russian sewage pump ?

They outsell Beech for piston singles and twins. And they will have tks on it I'm sure, since they were the first OEM to have it on the 42.

Me, as well, Tripp...DA20/40 are great aircraft to learn in, and fun to fly!
