Anyone know anything about the Extra 500?

Seems bonanza sized and pressurized, 6 seats, etc.

Anyone ever flown one?

Am I missing something like speed and distance. What I thought I read showed that it did not have that great of speed and could not cover too much ground. But it is sure beautiful and knowing it came from Extra! high quality

Seen it in person - sexy beast for a high-wing.

On the web site I didn't see a normal cruise speed but did see 19 gph and 1600 nm range and 172 gallon tanks. I guess that works out to 200-220 knots or so. Not fast but 7-8 hour legs. No price that I saw. Looks like it would fit in a hanger that a bonanza or baron would fit in.

I remember D. Collins shredded the EA-400 in a flight review (IIRC it had a big Lycoming motor in it). I think the EA-500 airplane looks great...and I would be happy to fly one. I think the whole program has stalled though.

Interesting design, not really a finished airplane as yet. Hope it doesn't go the way of the Adam; a new pressurized piston would be a healthy development.

We seen live and in person in Dayton at the Cirrus roundup a month ago. Great looking plane with the Rolls Royce turbine. They were taking people on joy rides in it and yes it is a completed plane. A few quick thoughts. No stuts for wing support when you look at it from the back it looks .......well very flimsy for lack of better description. The landing gear is very close together leading me to believe that landings would be rather eventful. Great looking interior and overall package but the speed numbers I seen were around 200kts or so for $1.5 million give or take a little bit? Sounds a little pricey for those performance numbers. They are doing tours across the US so go to there web site for a showing near you.

Extra has a stronger backbone than Adams did.
I think the 400 / 500 are gorgeous aircraft.

This seems to be the typical aircraft advertising game. It either:
- burns 19gph
or
- flies 220kts
or
- flies 1600nm.
or
- carries 6
never all of them at the same time.

The long range cruise is at 45% power or so and with tanks full, it is you and a briefcase.

$1.65M. First delivery is in New York in December. Several available for next year. $25K position.

If you are that close, seems like you would want to spend a little extra for an older Pilatus.

well look at that, just checked their demo schedule and they are coming to Houston tomorrow. Maybe I'll go check it out in person.

I got an email not long ago to come look at it.

I thought the email said 190 knots.

Plus, I won't be caught dead in a high wing aircraft ;)

Yeah, I do too. I'd fly an MU2.

They haul ass and have a "bad boy" image though.

I saw 209 kts as the Vne. That seems slow for an improvement on the 400, don't you think?
