I am up for my annual 61.58 proficiency check next month. Instead of doing it in the Eclipse, I am going to get a 737 type rating, which will cover me in the Eclipse for another year. Why? Well, why not? I thought about getting a Citation type or L-39 authorization since it is likely I could end up purchasing either of those planes, but I think B-737 will look cooler printed on my certificate. The only problem is that I need a sim partner. The school said they will have someone within the next few weeks to pair me with, but since I have made so many friends on Beechtalk it would be great to find someone here. It is very affordable, especially if someone has been planning on getting their ATP (you get it automatically after the type checkride if you meet the requirements and do the written) In fact it is about 1/3 what the Eclipse rating cost! So, who is in?

I have been wanting to do that but the timing isn't good right now. A friend recently completed it and had a ball. Have fun. LB

Thats pretty dang funny Theo. Seriously, I might be in for mid to late January. I'm booked the first two weeks. PM me the details. Do I need to get the written out of the way first?

It can be done in Las Vegas or Miami. I would rather do Vegas, although Miami might be the more responsible choice. Quote: Boeing 737-200 PIC Initial Certification, ATP/Type Rating, Part 61 - Home Study Option
This course provides the crewmember with the necessary knowledge and skills to obtain a B737 Type Rating.
Prerequisites:
Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi Engine Land Instrument Rating ATP written Meets the requirements of Part 61
Course Duration: Approximately 15 Days Classroom Instruction: Home Study Option: 40:00 Hrs at home + 12:00 Hrs On-Site System Integration Training: 16:00 Hours (Classroom, mock-up or simulator without motion) Simulator/Flight Training: * Paired: 12:00 Hours PF, 12:00 Hours PM (Level C or higher) 02:00 Hours LOFT (Each Pilot) Simulator/Certification Check: 3 Hours per trainee (Level C or higher)

There aren't many still flying in this country. It is still a B737 Type Rating on your ticket and probably good for an interview with Southwest.

Sheesh. Get your ATP now!
Pilots pursuing an ATP certificate after July 31, 2014, in addition to having 1,500 hours, will have to complete a new, yet-to-be developed, ATP certification training program. The program, consisting of 30 hours of ground and 10 hours of simulator training, must be completed prior to being eligible to take the ATP written and practical tests. The 10 hours of simulator training will include six hours of training in a level C or D (full-motion) simulator. According to the rule, this course will only be offered through Part 141, 142, 135, or 121 certificate holders, not allowing for Part 61 flights schools to develop courses and provide the training.
