Saw this video today. You really have to watch it in HD to appreciate it: http://vimeo.com/56864745

He's a lot braver (or dumber) than I am. I'd want a lot more separation from those rocks. You can see why airplanes that go down in the Rockies are sometimes not found for years, if ever.

The pilot obviously knows his locale and conditions were favorable. With any winds at all, hitting some of those ridges at a 90 degree angle would invite a lee downdraft and I wouldn't chance it. Great video!

I was thinking the same as steve. I wouldnt do it for that reason and others, but then again, I also always keep any airplane I fly WELL with in the envelope.

It's not for everyone, but it's for me. Just like his kinda flying aint for me, but could be for him... Whatever... I'd be much more inclined to do that sort of thing with 2 engines and going 250 kts or more. Then of course you lose some of the majesticness.... so yea... At least give me an aircam! it may be cold, but its got 2 engines...

I would not do it either, but I can't deny the fact the video is pretty awesome. Wouldn't their be substantial mountain wave concerns as well?

That was a cool video. I am planning on getting some mountain flying (training) in on Saturday (depending on weather of course) in Taos, NM.

I have done that frequently. You just have to learn about the conditions.

Hal, i think that was his name. I didn't get to do the training. Ceilings were way too low.
