Hi,

I’m hoping to find an off market Christen Eagle 2. Ideally on the east coast but I am willing to travel for the right airplane (I am in Norfolk, Virginia).

If you happen to know of one, I would be interested in hearing about it.

Additionally, any thoughts on Eagle ownership experiences would be welcome. When the dust settles I am looking for a biplane with gentleman aerobatic capability. I have no aspirations to compete.

Thanks in advance!

Rob

I’m a bigger fan of the Great Lakes and also the Lycoming powered Bucker For gentleman aerobatics and relaxation. I think I would throw these skybolt into the mix if you’re looking for a good deal

I appreciate the suggestions and have done a little reading about them. Any of the three you mentioned would be great!

Part of the decision process is what will fit in my hangar. I am limited to something with less than a 23’ wingspan to fit comfortably. I have gone as far as getting a quote for a Pitts but the Eagle was far more reasonable.

The Christen Eagle is a great choice! I wanted but couldn’t afford an Eagle so spent 13 years building an Acroduster instead. When time to fly the Duster, I spent a good portion of my transition training in an Eagle. A great airplane design.

It is such a capable airplane it is hard to find a good one that hasn’t been flown hard and in need of expensive work. Good luck with your search.

Totally agree with Mr. Tarver, but understand about your size limitations.
I am very happy with my GL, and add that it is very well-mannered on landing.
The unexpected benefit is that you will become the most popular aviator on the field: people (and especially, for some reason, women), can't resist the allure of going for a flight in an open-cockpit biplane. The adventure can be enhanced with an old leather jacket, scarf, goggles, and leather helmet.
I am, however, looking at a Pitts S2B, so my GL may come into the market.
I believe that the latter Eagles had the drag-anti-drag wire blocks modified so they would not pull through. Check it out on your prospect.
