Sweet pics, Ray! I love the Wolf Pitts mods on the S1S and of course the Duster is the prettiest of them all. :D

AgCat fire bombers working Northern NJ in 1998. Far one is a 600 hp conversion and was flown by an at-that-time 83 year-old former WWII B-17 pilot.

Admittedly I’m quite late to this thread, but I just got checked out on a rental Great Lakes and I’m starting to understand the whole biplane thing!

Very fun little plane.

Robert: 1.-There is no other airplane that can match a biplane in making you irresistible to the opposite sex.
2.- I am in need of an acro sighting device for my Great Lakes, and see the one on yours. I would appreciate a contact number for the owner.

Tom, Bill Finagin in Annapolis, MD used to sell those sights. Not sure if he still does, but I’d start there. I’ll PM you his number.

Thank you, CK. I trained with Bill years ago in my Pitts. I did have one of his sighting devices on my airplane; l'll contact him to see if he might have one for the GL.

A stock 2-seat 360 Eagle or any Eagle? A friend in CA was selling his Eagle that had a 540 engine and a single seat conversion.

Were all the single seat Eagles conversions, or was that a normal build option with the kit?

I've been out biplane hunting today, and if you can't spend a beautiful day like today flying, then looking at biplanes is the next most fun thing. I met a gentleman by accident this morning who has both an immaculate N3N and a gorgeous Waco YKS cabin. The N3N was restored "just the way a cadet would see it in 1941" according to the owner. And the Waco with its L4 Jake, Ham Standard variable pitch prop, "steering wheel" yokes and faithful period restoration were a real treat.

That’s great, Tony. Those old Waco Cabins are excellent time travelers from a different era.

Alex,

Congratulations on your beautiful airplane! I know you've been looking for a while and getting one from the factory is the ultimate way to do it.

I love the simple white and burgundy paint scheme. It looks just like Michael McCafferty's "Spirit of Adventure" he flew around Europe.

If you haven't read about his tours they are great reads. His first, the American Tour, is especially on point as he describes his visit to the Waco Classic factory a couple of decades ago. Michael's writing is what got me into Waco flying...

http://www.michaelmccafferty.com/adventures/

Thanks Tony. I took a lot of your advice into account when going through the process, and this airplane really checked all the boxes. Plus dealing with the factory has been a real pleasure. What a great group of people. Let's coordinate schedules and perhaps I could fly up to your neck of the woods and meet for lunch (I'm in FW so not so far in "Waco" terms).

I'm back in search mode looking for a biplane to keep on the west coast. Hangars are an issue here so scrounging for that too. I've looked on line at several QCF's but my Waco guru friend Barry Branin says they had smaller tail feathers and a couple other quirks which might be problematic and advises a UCF. None of those available.

So, I'm now looking at YMF 5's again. It is nice to have a newer factory airframe as you've discovered...

I've done some looking at Stearman's and am trying to get up to speed on those. Looking at what CK calls a "stocker" this weekend.

Tom has me intrigued with Great Lakes now and I've been talking to a gentleman in Michigan that has what looks like a beautiful one with newly overhauled engine and what looks like a pretty reasonable price.

Looking is fun but flying is better! I'm getting my UMF ready to fly in the next couple of weeks and maybe we can meet soon.

Tony
