Forgive me please, for posting this non-Beech related message. I'd put it in Babble Talk, but it somehow doesn't seem appropriate. The airplane is near and dear to me.

The world's only flyable EC-121 MAY make its last flight tomorrow morning, from Camarillo CA to Chino, where it will go on static display, never to fly again.

This is the Super Constellation with the giant tumor/radar dome on the belly. I think it used to have the giant radar "fin" on top, but that was removed, long ago.

It has been sitting on the ramp since 9/26/1999 when I parked it after my (successful) check ride.

Best...

For that, I'd come out of retirement! Alas, no, I'll never fly again, either. Two strokes did me in (but no regrets).

John,
Bittersweet.
The man that owns the strip where I keep my bonanza (L36 Rio Linda) won the distinguished flying cross in the constellation. Had engine fires over enemy territory, did some impressive flying to get them out instead of having the crew bail out.

Perhaps you know him. His name is Bill Mauser. Has something like 40,000 hours. Still flies all the time.

Mike

Thanks, you're very kind. But I'm afraid my skills have atrophied in three years. I have not touched the controls of an airplane in that time, and oddly, have no desire to. Sounds weird, I know, but with 52 years of professional flying and 39,000 hours aloft, I didn't know how burned out I was. It is a huge relief not to be concerned with the FAA, ever again.

Best...

If you ever change your mind the offer stands, and if not flying then dinner is on me!!!

Lufthansa foundation, the organization that is restoring the Super Connie in Auburn,ME sent their pilots to Espinal, France to get their type rating on HB-RSC, a swiss registered L-1049. They managed to get that training in just before the aircraft was grounded for spar corrosion.
