Damn, we look so young! Only ~12 years ago. Dunno who's drivin', Scott.

Best...

John -- I couldn't resist posting this one. Apologies to Shakespeare:

Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow Connie like a colossus,
And we petty pilots peep about and find ourselves cleaning up oil spots on the ramp....

John,

If it makes you feel any better, there is still one Connie flying down here in the land of Oz.

She is a sight and sound that warms the heart and soul.......

Read here http://www.hars.org.au/2009/05/the-connie/

And some video.....love the night time departure (dusk anyway)

and

My hangar buddy is a retired Qantas 747/707 Captain and is actively involved with HARS, and he flies the Connie for HARS on its various flights around the country. It would not happen without the generous support of many people and some big mining company donations.

All the best!

David.

Just ran across this today - does anybody else think this is one of the most beautiful planes every designed? And the sound of those 4 big radials...

Yeah, Lufthansa has been restoring one in Auburn Maine for years.

Had in impromptu "tour" one visit when retrieving some Thomas Moser furniture.

Seems a recent fire changed some plans.

Interesting back-story to the airframes being re-built.

Count me in - it’s an aviation masterpiece just like the Model 17 Staggerwing.

For those of us of a “certain age” who remember the advertising term LSMFT; my Dad said that it meant Lockheed Sure Makes Fine Transports.

I had a college course in 1968 where we "flew" the 1049G Super Connie simulator at Flight Safety on 36th st, Miami. 2 hours in each seat.
I had an opportunity to right seat on the delivery of a handful of retired Eastern Connies when they were retired....didn't do it...still regret it. ( afraid my father would kill me if I dropped out of school...again)

My Grandfather flew that Eastern Connie 5 Feb 1960 from ATL to EWR - 3 hours 55minutes. :pilot:

I'm the only grandson with any interest in aviation so I ended up with all his logbooks and strolling through them sure makes me keep up with my paper one and put details in that someone might find interesting some day.

Saw a friends FB post of the video of its landing at Chino.
Can't share it unfortunately.

Boy, this brings back ancient memories. When I was just a kid...six maybe?... My mother put me on a TWA Connie at LAX to fly across the Country. Wow! What an adventure! The stewardess escorted me up to the cockpit for a tour. The Captain gave me some tin wings. The other thing I remember is that the lavatory was in the very back, and the cabin floor curved uphill to get to it.
