I've got to wonder if that 12 engine flying wing gun platform ever got off the ground and if so did it make it back down safely.

While the russians did generate some interesting looking aircraft in that era, I believe the first picture has been shown to be fabricated.

The third one I can believe.

The third one is real. It's a Stipa-Caproni. I recall reading about it in the context of flying wing designs. The cylindrical fuselage is supposed to provide lift and improve propeller efficiency.

Supposedly it flies like a dream so long as its going straight. :pilot:

The Flying Flapjack. It's a plane with a pancake on its head.

Uh, #2 is the XB-70 on display at US Air Force Museum. It has since been moved to a different part of the base.

You're right. Here's a similar view of the Tupelov. Note the intakes and windshield. Different from the OP's photo. The background looked dismal, so I was fooled into thinking it had to be Russia, not Dayton. Good catch!

I visited the San Diego Air & Space Museum over the weekend and highly recommend it.

Google the Convair Sea Dart - they have one there.
