A friend just bought a 172 to get his ppl in. He has about three hours so far. I'm a big believer in the safety and educational benefits of online owner's groups like this one.

Any suggestions for a good piston Cessna group?

Thanks!

The main group is the Cessna Pilots Assoc. They have a real active forum.

CPA's technical support is outstanding and well worth the cost.

For an alternative to CPA try Cessna Pilots Society (http://www.cessna-pilots.net); it's a very active forum as well, similar in tenor to BT and free.

A lady owns one in the hangar across from me. While I'm maneuvering my Powertow and dragging the V35B out, running the checklists, etc, she can drag that C172 out, close the door, start it up and be flying before I'm ready to taxi.

Boring as it may be, the C172 is just perfect if your operating radius is 75-225 miles. Less than that, driving works better most places. Farther and you need a faster plane...passengers just love the newest ones. Great visibility and with good headsets and the leather interior, its more like being in a Lexus than a Cessna.

It's really not the best trainer, though. Way too easy to fly.

hehe.

On the return trip from the BT meet in TN I was in a 172 and Jeff S was in his Baron. We were both returning to Detroit. I left about an hour before he did. He passed me around Cincinatti, OH and landed about an hour before me.

There's the rub. I've had similar experiences. As much as I love my PPONK'd and STOL'd 182 for what I can do with it, she's slow.

Which is why I'm here dreaming about next year again. :)
