Bought a Columbia 400, to go fast
like the 58P, but half the gas.
Thermawing deice, Avidyne glass,
All electric, fiberglass.

But the 58P... it's smooth as silk,
Pressurized cabin, can fill it to the hilt.
Known ice, flies nice, flight-level skilled
3-axis autopilot, Beechcraft built

For the time being
will likely keep them both,
400 for local,
P-Baron to the coast!

Congrats
I've flown the 400 and it's a rocket ship. Great handling.
Pictures?

I've got a friend who has had one for several years and really likes it. Congratulations!

I'm curious about the Thermawing deice. That's electric heat on the leading edge?

What about the prop, windshield, and tail?

They are certainly nice airplanes but I never could figure out how to raise the gear.

Thanks guys. It really is a sweet flying bird. Solid and slick (even with the gear welded down!). Regarding the Thermawing, it's not approved for known icing, just inadvertent icing. Thermawing heats the leading edges of the wings and horizontal stabilizer, with power from a dedicated third alternator. The plane also comes with heated prop, pitot heat, stall warning heat and windshield defrost. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but supposedly the present version works as advertised. Will certainly get plenty of opportunity this coming winter up here in Minnesota.
