Agreed, saw it a OSH last year and I though the price was in the $150 range, which is still too much for a 100hp (way underpowered) plane.

They said $250K on The Today Show this morning.

Why wouldn't you just buy one of these. http://www.lakeamphib.com/lakeamphib.htm?
It is already certified and carries 4-6 people for the same cost!!

Because a lake isn't "cool", young, innovative, fresh, etc. And the wings don't fold.

I understand where you're coming from but it's not a fair comparison. Who would buy an LSA for 100k when a 152 is 20k?

Lakes are like a cult, a friend of mine had one up to a year ago, and if he gets another float plane it'll be a lake. They are essentially a flying boat... and they are loud

Had a Lake almost run into me the other day. So, I don't like them.

I've seen it many times in person. I'm no engineer but based on being around planes all the time I would venture to say the only way this plane will work is with at least a 250HP engine strapped on.

100HP is just too unrealistic.

Bingo!

How do they get to this level in life and not know this? They're smart enough to get this thing on the Today Show. They're not smart enough to know that nobody is going to pay $250K for such limited capability?

I think it's just marketing to try to appeal the the sport pilot segment - I guess they see the masses flocking to the romantic idea of the plane. Obviously once you throttle up and take off the masses will realize that flying anything without expertize is dangerous.

Yikes, there's LOTS of choices for that money... just a good Maule or 180 on floats would suit me fine. However, I've got a ~25ft. area to get a float plane around my boat to get it onto my property, and would have to turn it sideways to get it in.... can't legally trim the damn mangroves or I could have a nice sea plane base.

The Today Show also spoke of "The New FAA pilots license that makes it easier and less expensive to become a pilot".

I'm glad they just "glossed over" that little tidbit of info. :D

Let me get this straight. We are now saying LSA are cool??
