Anybody see this survey for a new twin from TBM? Is Pilatus next?

Kinda wonder if they got to thinking about HBC building a turbine single, and how it may impact their sales?

Seems to me that one company acquiring the other would be cheaper and easier.

Let's see a new 850 goes for about 2.4mil the twin would probably be 4mil. Seems to be alot of nice jets out there for that price.

If I'm buying a twin turboprop, I'm buying a KA. What possible advantage would TBM have in doing this?

If they build anything, they should build a larger version of what they have.

The other guy is Peter Sellers. Thanks for the bit of time travel.

Actually, what seems to be missing out there to me is a 58P with just a bit more room, with twin turbines, very fast and decent range. The KA is MUCH larger and heavier with much more drag. A six seat twin turbine with decent room (not KA size) maybe not cabin class could really be fast. If it had decent range of 1,200 NM with IFR reserves, it could sure fill a niche. There is no logical step up from the 58P IMO. One goes to a much larger KA or to a turbine single.

Best,

Dave

Sure sounds like you are describing an EA500 or Mustang.

That is exactly the Mustang's niche - single pilot / 5 pax / 330 kts / 1150 nm - $3MM list but deals are being made.

PBaron Cougar conversion or RR500 turbines would give it the 1200 nm range.

Nobody knows about the RR500, but the Cougar conversion doesn't get close to that. Rocket is claiming a max VFR range of 975nm at "normal cruise" (285kts at FL250).

This wouldn't stop me as I don't need really long legs, but others will feel differently.

Rolls purchased in the 90's the old Allison Company that produced the 250 turbine which was used extensively in Bells, MD's and Sikorsky helos so it's a very well proven motor that has been around since the 60's.

If one reads through the survey, the questions lead to choices of air speeds of 300 knots or more and lowest altitude choice was FL360. (At least with what I checked as choices.)

We flew the Mustang, and it's a much bigger plane than the 58P. We really don't need cabin class. That's really our issue: we don't need a large cabin class plane. Six seats with club seating is fine like the 58P or the TBM.

The Eclipse would have fit our mission very well if it did what was promised. There's one on the field here where they want partners. Big issue is will they be there to support it in the future if one participates in the Total Eclipse program and just not comfortable with the single source of integrated avionics. If you buy existing and upgrade, it takes both time and money with trips to the factory. But, it fit in our hanger and range and payload was close to the 58P. Just not willing to bet $2,000,000 everything will be O.K.
