I appreciate all the replies. I expect the plane to be used extensively over the holidays therefore, I probably can't get the panel work done until early next year. I'll probably get the portable unit ASAP. Any suggestions on a portable gps and does anyone have one they want to get rid of?

I didn't know anything about Tigers until I picked up on some comments here on BT. I was surprised how many BTers mentioned them. After doing a little researched I talked with a couple of "go to" aviation guys. Both raved about the Tigers.

Rick, buy Leigh's used Garmin 396, you'll have GPS and Weather,

I like the 396/496 but regardless of which gps you buy a good source for a mounting bracket for a Tiger is http://www.gpsbracket.com. (For parts generally, the source to go to is http://www.fletchair.com.)
