I am in the process of selling a 2005 TBM 700C2 for a friend and finally had the opportunity to fly it the other day. The airplane is based out of Lago Vista TX (KRYW) near Austin, which has a 4000x50 runway. I only have about 300 hours of turboprop time but the last turboprop I flew was a new Meridian about a year ago so it was nice to have something to compare it to. My first impressions are that this airplane is simply incredible. Launches off the ground and climbs like a homesick angel. Handles rock solid and the PT6 is smooth as butter. Piece of cake to fly and I enjoyed it more than the Meridian. Easy to land also...flew down final at 80 to 85 knots and had no problem stopping it in less than half the 4000ft runway at RYW without using brakes (beta only). I am confident that any well trained Bonanza pilot could transition to this airplane easily. There are, however, a lot more systems to monitor and manage. Tons of switches to throw...which surprised me actually. I push a lot less buttons on the 737 and the checklist is a lot shorter too. Truthfully, I think the factory checklist could be shortened significantly with the use of flow patters, etc. All in all, what a great day in that plane. Fortunately I didn't have to pay the fuel bill though!

If only Mooney had completed the six seat "301." As I understand it, some of the engineering information that went into the 301 was used for the TBM (TarBes-Mooney).

The TBM is an awesome airplane, sounds like you had a great flight. Good luck in finding a new home for that aircraft.

The TBM is one sweet personal chariot indeed. I first flew one in the mid 90's and loved it. The C2 added a badly needed useful load so you can fill the seats and have enough fuel to go somewhere. The current 850 with G1000 is like a pilot's dream come true although I have to say a Baron is more fun to fly (I like the feel of the controls better in the Baron, the TBM feels like a heavy, stiff long body Mooney) but I could forgive that for all the capability the TBM has.

I've been pax in several and all three pilots have commented on the level of systems complexity. None of the planes I've been in had the latest integrated glass setup, though.

A King Air has more complexity to it's systems. I would say any pilot comfortable in a Bonanza would find it an easy aircraft to transition to. Yes, I would rewrite the checklists to follow a logical pattern.
