According to that website link in the BabbleTalk thread about pilots who lie about their ratings, he is a licensed pilot, albeit pretty recently - January 2010.

When a door would pop open and I was trying to reclose it in flight, it was impossible to get the door open more than a few inches, even if I slowed way down and put in a lot of rudder. Can't imagine how he got it open enough to get out . . . with a parachute on no less. Maybe the need to get the insurance check gave him super human strength. Good point Greg, I have only jumped out of a plane without an inflight skydiving door a few times and it is HARD! The pilot had to slow way down and drop some flaps and it was still tough. I haven't heard if he is a skydiver or not but his story sounds fishy.

I also wonder why he had a helmet camera on that he filmed his jump with ?
pretty fishy.

He obviously put the gear up, did he forget where the devise was that subsequently would put the gear back down? Username Protected wrote: There's a guy with a Columbia in Key West that wears one everytime he goes up, maybe It's more comin then we think,,,,,, NAAAAA! Insurance money Here's another thought: Maybe the guy's not even a pilot, just an experienced skydiver who decided to "borrow" an airplane for a joy ride and then decided he wasn't up to making a safe landing. His conversations with ATC ("Say intentions: 'I don't want to hurt anybody'), his inability to lower the gear (what are the chances that a flight control problem and a gear problem would occur on the same flight?) are some of the things that make me wonder is this was a qualified pilot.

Username Protected wrote: How in heck would you even exit a Bonanza with a chute without coming into contact with the tail? Cherokee6 was used for skydiving in the past and people have climbed out over the wing of other low-wings. If the plane is at a rasonable speed for the jump-run, there is little risk of hitting the stab. It CAN be done but it requires effort.

I've looked behind me at the tail and have been surprised at how high the V rides relative to the wing compared with the tail-low attitude on the ground. I think if you just slid off the wing while sitting/lying it would not be a problem.
