The Cirrus CEO just announced significant cutbacks, addtional layoffs, and a plant closing. He added that the cutbacks will have an "unquanifiable" effect on the SF50 Jet program. Cirrus says they have "no plans" for filing (bankruptcy).

I certainly don't want to see this kind of trouble at Cirrus. GA has at least two or three years of big bumps ahead. I think I'm going to sit back for a while and enjoy my Beech!

Cirrus Jet -- D.O.A.

What a shame.

Oh boy...this is bad, bad news. The Cirrus Jet was the only VLJ that had a chance, IMHO. They have the installed base of airplanes to drive adoption via upgrades without the need to acquire tons of new customers. What a drag.

Doesn’t Diamond Aircraft still develop the D-Jet? Diamond has strong financial resources as well as thousands of satisfied pilots. I bet many of them are ready to upgrade to the D-jet.

Well, deposits in aviation have always been a risky business, especially for "new and revolutionary" designs. But I think Diamond will succeed. When they where able to ride off the Thielert-crisis, I think they can manage almost anything.

And a Diamond does not look superior on paper. But talk to the owners. They all love it. :D (I know, not those with the Thielert-experience)

I never understood why anyone would put a deposit on anything.

There's always going to be some schmoe that buy's "said thing" and can't afford to keep it so he sells. Never fails.

When Eclipse was riding high, some early depositors earned nice gains by selling their delivery positions. Aviation seems to run more on hope and dreams than other industries. Well... then there's banking

I am a contrarian on one thing- I believe that the Piper Jet will reach production, and will sell.

In general aviation, if you want to bet on something, place your money on Beech, Cessna or Piper.

Not a sure thing, but others come and go. Those three are still here.

(and Maule?)

...you just created a mental image...

...the MauleJet - steel tube, ceconite and a Williams FJ44 turbine. STOL. Ground run of 19 feet. Climb rate of 4,900FPM (at 36 knots).

You saw it here, first! :D

Well, to make it Beech-related, my T-Bone had JATO rockets at one time! Really. There's a provision in the POH for using JATO.

I think the burn was something like 30 seconds.

Wouldn't that be something to see?
