A new turbine Lancair looses prop at 13,000 feet and lands on beach killing a jogger.

What a sad story for the jogger and his surviving family, etc.

The beach at Palmetto Dunes is only a bit over two miles from the airport...too bad they didn't make the airport.

Tragic story. RIP.

This situation reminds me of the Piper that departed Aspen and had the front fall off. He made it back.

According to FAA records, not turbine:

New? Certificate issue date 8/11/2004

Manufacture year 2009?

Some conflict there.

Perhaps he upgraded to a turbine, or just confused reporting and they looked at the Evolution on the website.

I was walking that same beech, same time, a few miles south. Nice day, thinking it would sure be easy to land on the hard packed sand. Went home, got on the internet and started looking at Lancair IV-Ps as I had been doing for a few days. Got up in the morning and heard the news -have scratched the airplane from my list.

The 'dude where is my prop' guy (Malibu that lost its prop off a TIO520 near Aspen) is still in court trying to find someone to pay for it. Conti says the prop-flange snapped off because the A&P overtightened the bolts, A&P says prop-shop sent him a deficient prop.......

If you gotta put your plane down that should be your problem, not some helpless guy on the beach. I'd prosecute this joker for manslaughter.

Wow, that's a fast 550. His 3/15 FlightAware track shows him going 251 knots in level flight.

Well, that does not help the situation much. If you read the article it states that he lost his prop and the windshield was covered in oil where he could not see. Trust me, his grief on being responsible for someone's life is punishment enough. I feel bad for both families. Only the lawyers will get rich on any lawsuit.
