As most of you know...I'm kinda of a deal guy. I just like the "word of mouth" buys people get. I have bought a many of Street Rod and Muscle Car by people knowing that I buy that stuff.

Same people that had the Piper 180 are selling a primo Piper Cub. It is unique in the sense that it has an O-200 on it (open cowl). Full electric, new bungee cords and tires. They are asking $40,000.00. It is a "fly home and enjoy" Cub. I think it is a 1947.

Admin - the listing is in Peddler Talk. This thread is split to more easily permit discussion of Cubs and related planes. JS

I love mine Leigh but I believe $40,000 is overpriced for a 1947. I have a metal prop and metal spar, and it is shown at airshows throughout the southeast. It is beautiful 1946 and I only paid $26,000. I guess that bigger engine is the reason the costs is so much more. It is the coolest thing to get up early in the morning in the summer and go flying that slow machine around. I watch cars going faster than I am on the highway. To me if I got to give up 2 of 3 planes, the Cub will be left standing.

$26K is a good buy on a Cub. I thought they were in the ballpark if not under at $40K. At $26K if and when I recover (Commercial Real Estate) sounds very doable. Having cars pass you below sounds hilarious. I could put floats on it and land at my River House!

I'm sure my wife will go along with all this

No you would have to probably have your friends Cub for floats. Mine barely lifts my fat ass off the ground like it is. If I added floats it would be a permanent static display because its sure not lifting off the ground.

I love 'em because you can fly them with the door open and enjoy the wind blowing through the cockpit--it's like riding a motorcycle 500 feet in the air.

Exactly, thank you....

Seriously, there is nothing better with the doors open (summer morning in Florida) flying at around 500 feet coming in and out of fog mist, flying in formation with the ducks (since they can go as fast as you), being yelled at from the ground to get that awful yellow colored thing away from their property (again, they don't realize I am going as fast as I can) and best of all knowing that FAA will never know where I am with no transponder and flying low :woot:

X2 Yves.

I got my tailwheel endorsement in a Cub, and right then, right there, I decided to buy one if I ever get to the place where I can no longer afford my Baron.

Maybe we need a thread for Beech owners who own/covet/love Cubs.

Does it have to be just Cubs?

Now, let's hear it. :)

Paul, I got my tailwheel endorsement in a Citabria and I've taken an aerobatic course in a Super Decathlon. I lust, in my heart, after a 7ECA. Thanks for those awesome photos.

I wish I knew more about the various models and configurations. I got my SES rating in a J-3 and have flown it on wheels and skis as well. Did my Flight Review in a Decathlon last year to get some spins for the first time in years.

As I get older and think about the day I part ways with my V-35, I wonder if a Cub or Champ or other tailwheel airplane might be the way to finish as a VFR Sunday afternoon guy.
