Just watching the news about a stolen C 172 from a Canadian flight school. Apparently landed in Missouri after a 5.5 hour military escort flight. Apparently a Turkish born Canadian. Says it was as high as 14,500 ft. and the flight went from the Michigan border to southern Missouri - pretty decent range. I wonder how much fuel was left -if any? I can't wait to see how this is used to generate more fear and take more of our liberties. Remember, "no good crisis should go to waste."

Mark, I can't see any good coming out of this. TSA will be all over this. What was it that provoked a military escort? No flight plan? Ok, flight plans are now required. No intended destination? Ok, now you can't fly unless you are going somewhere. No fence around the airport? Ok, put fences around the airports, and raise the gas taxes to pay for them. No interlock in the airplane to prevent unauthorized AND NON-Terrorist use? Ok, require interlocks on all aircraft and total complete background checks on anybody, even if they just want to drive the airport and look through the fence. There is no end to this insanity. Why oh why, this moron did not just run out of gas and land in one those big cold lakes. In Ohio, we have our own Homeland Security Dept, under ODOT. They require aircraft owners to fill out Declarations of Material Assistance every year. The fact they find comfort in these stupid forms is also insane. Check this out: http://homelandsecurity.ohio.gov/dma/dma.asp

Nothing good is going to come out this B.S.
Also, we were waiting to takeoff in BWI on Sunday and the tower said all departures were stopped. They said "someone was being intercepted around DC".......that can't be good either.

Here are some of the articles. "The plane had the keys in it and was behind locked barriers" I suspect all the customers/students knew they leave the keys in the planes. Was it just behind a locked airport fence? Hop it and take the plane. (Or at our airport, all the pilots know the airport gate code is CTAF. You wouldn't leave the keys in your plane here.) "After landing the plane around 9:45 ET, the suspect fled into the woods, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Marty Elmore said. According to staff at nearby grocery store and restaurant, he hitched a ride with another person before entering Simmons Grocery & Hardware, near Ellsinore. He used the facilities and bought a drink. "He sat in here in the store with us for like 30 minutes. He heard us talking about people looking for a man who was running from the law," said Teresa Davidson, 41, a cashier at the place. Mr. Leon tried to buy beef jerky and a lemon-lime Gatorade, but only had enough for the drink, she said. "He did seem a little nervous, but he didn't act strange or nothing," Ms. Davidson told The Globe and Mail. Then, around 10:20 ET, "Oh man there was just cops everywhere, they just came in and got him." He went peacefully, she said. Staff identified him as an outsider when he asked to use a "washroom" instead of a "bathroom." http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www. ... xhgco9oWIwhttp://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ ... stolen0406edit* Don't you just love their "file photo" of a Cessna 172? In Canada they have low wings!

I would have gotten away I don't understand one thing, its all about "homeland security" eApis this, apis that, and then they have the opportunity to make their stance really clear and they don't take it? They followed a 172 for 4 hours? They must have had the gear and flaps down, and the airbrake deployed while they flew a holding pattern around him for 4 hours.... fun and in flight refueling.
