Dear Jason,

Premier Aircraft Sales today announced that its undertaking the development
of a coal-powered DA40 modification, slated for certification in the first quarter
of 2010.

Premier, which last week introduced the Cabin Cool™ air conditioning system
for the DA40, decided its time for general aviation to go green;
in a big way. Coal is clean, plentiful, and will help America fight its
dependence on the global oil supply; said Fred Ahles, president of Premier.
The market demanded it, so we said, Lets build
it!

Although the DA40 is already the most fuel-efficient aircraft in its class, coal
will bring even greater fuel efficiency to the aircraft. Instead of buying
fuel by the gallon, as pilots do with avgas today, they can buy it by the ton for
considerable cost savings,says Ahles. He noted, however, that the
coal-burning option comes with some performance trade-offs. Instead of using
1,200 feet to take off, this aircraft will require 8,000 feet of runway. That
shouldnt be a problem since so many owners are based at commercial
airports,says Ahles. In addition, it will cruise at 59 knots;
well above the stall speed. It will climb at 6 feet per minute, and have a
useful load of 0. Ahles noted it requires a FAA ferry permit for every take off.

For more information contact Earle Boyter at (772) 321-5421.

Very truly yours,

Fred

That came to me in an e-mail this morning.

Obviously.

I do like the "useful load of 0".

Ha Ha
You might be interested in the fact that coal to liquids is being done in Australia. A trial plant is running and a commercially viable plant in the future.
This technology was used by the Germans back in the 40's.
There are vast amounts of coal on this big island that could fuel our lust for flying for many years.
You will be able power a diesel powered aircraft with the coal soon.

How is "The Hat"
I am from YQF and had a few trips to YXH in my old 77 VTail.
Fond memories getting the Leader town plow to clear the runway of fresh snow, doing night circuits at YYC using a credit card to clear the frost from the windscreen of the 150, flying the foothills, going to Billings for the weekend........
Hmmmmm I reckon I prefer the benign wx here in Oz.

Hat is good, flight school split off from Bar XH and is very busy. It now costs at least $52 to land in YYC so circuits might get expensive, they actually charged me $2,700 for my last landing at YYC somehow they believe that I have 252 seats! Was in Red Deer on Tues... still a busy airport with all the water bombing planes and heli's. Billings lost customs service so now have to go to Cutbank or Great Falls to clear. All I have to do is look at Regina weather to make Med Hat weather look great!
