The newest AOPA Pilot covers this neat two-seat airplane, powered by a turbo-charged Rotax. The company claims that the airplane will cruise at 9000 feet at 162 KTAS at 3.7 GPH. I have also heard told that the company flew a 915 version of the aircraft across the Atlantic from Italy. The Risen 916isv version of the airplane flew at 165 KTAS and burned 42 gallons of gas for the overwater section of the flight. Range of the aircraft is somewhere north of 1,000 NM.

Anyone have any real-world experience in this airplane - the performance seems too good to be true.

Here is a spec sheet. The range numbers are fudged a bit but the fudging is disclosed if not practical.

That seems like a really impressive L/D and they claim a 23:1 glide ratio. I didn't think there was that much room for improvement in low speed aerodynamics.

It looks like minimal or no cargo, but if the numbers are real its still impressive.

My hangar neighbor has one. It looks fast on the ground. I generally don’t pay too much attention to pilots quoting airspeeds. My recollection was he said 200 KTAS on 6 GPH. I know he said 200 KTAS. I’m not so certain about the 6gph. I think he said in the teens MSL.

I can clarify the next time I see him and will pay closer attention. He really likes it. He hasn’t had it very long. It does look nice though.

They claim 197 @ 6.9, so that’s in range.

What’s the point of going fast if you can’t bring family and luggage along?

It seems impractical to me. But then again I routinely fly with 3 adults, 2 grandchildren and luggage in my A36.

Which will do an easy 185+ knots true at 12k MSL and 195+ knots true at 17k MSL with the TAT TN burning 15.x GPH.

I think plenty of us fly mostly alone or with just one passenger and a couple of bags. For us, that airplane fits the mission. According to the video linked below, the airplane costs $350,000. They are customer built - customers go to Italy for several weeks to do the build, then the airplane is shipped to Nephi Utah where it's assembled, flight tested and delivered to the customer.

Here's a pretty good video showing the airplane in flight and on the ground.

That should go away next year with MOSAIC. Although I have no clue whether that will push the price up or down. Builder labor is unpaid, but unskilled and requires lots of supervision. And the build process can very likely be much streamlined with not having to abide by the 51% rule.

As impressive as the numbers are, it doesn’t look like it would be a comfortable cockpit for more than maybe an hour. Highly reclined seating (which is part of the magic, reducing flat plate area significantly), a console up against you up to about your rib cage, and a center stick. Not for me. Mooney drivers might enjoy it.

Looks awesome to me. Seems to compete directly against the Dark Aero.

It's like a motorcycle. Lighter, faster, fuel efficient, but limited in utility for carrying stuff and people. I would want to delete flight controls from the right seat.

Risen empty weight is 772 lbs.
A 2025 Honda Goldwing Touring model is 856 lbs.

No doubt this would be a fun design for $100 hamburger runs and going to the local fly in. At 3.7gph, you might could get a hamburger for $100.
