Though our focus is helping buyers, all buyers become sellers at some point.
When it comes to listing an aircraft for sale with a broker, there’s a lot that goes into the decision. It seems that most sellers ask “how much do you charge” instead of “how well do you perform” and as the demand settles, the performance part will once again become of paramount importance.
We have another cycle where the frothy market has attracted a lot of new aircraft brokers, many work for reputable companies and learn the business the right way, others jump out with just enough knowledge of how things work to really be dangerous.
Here’s come good questions to ask prior to signing a listing agreement. Questions that may save you a lot of time and money.
1. How many similar aircraft has your company sold in the last 12 months?
2. Will you personally travel to see the aircraft, take photos (or will there be pro photos) and scan the logbooks (at least the last ten years)
3. Will you be attending showing or will I be responsible for having someone do that?
These are just a few questions to get the conversation started, what have you experienced during a sale that the listing broker could have done better.
Remember, if the aircraft sits unsold for months the advantage of a lower commission will be wiped out by the holding cost.

Because we are on the buyer’s side we do suffer when a bad broker is on the seller’s side. "Because we are on the buyer’s side we do suffer when a bad broker is on the seller’s side." ...and, thus, one of the reasons that you and your company exists and provides a valuable service and/or valuable services.
