Looks like a flying sauna. Ask guys with RVs how hot the cockpit gets on a sunny day and then multiply that times two in this bird. Still, it looks beautiful.

Did I see that right? Access to the back end of the engine is thru the open canopy? Nice looking plane though. Especially the tail!

Yeah, when I saw that in the video, it looked like it's pretty much open to the cockpit area. I wondered how they "firewall" that area... There must be some sort of fire shield that is fitted there, under the canopy and panel covering... I can't see EASA certifying it without one.

Based on the max weight, I think this is an ultralight under EASA regulations, what we refer to as a light sport here. Until the rules change, only the fixed gear version would be legal as an LSA in the US. It was a little vague about whether there is a CS prop but that would not (yet) be permitted in the US either. I'm guessing the "Siren" version of the airplane would meet US LSA requirements and its considerably slower.

The Europeans have a much better set of light aircraft regulations that encourage innovation... ours are very rigid. However, the FAA is apparently working on revisions so we will see.

Pretty airplane though... Europe is full of fast, attractive (many are retractable) 2-seaters made by small companies all over the place.

A very, very sad case last weekend at our Porta Westfalica airport (approx 30' s/ww of Hannover, Germany) with one life lost. I made a picture of the total loss aircraft (a fixed geared Siren) about one hour before the crash (at that time still safe and sound in the hangar) and when coming back from a flight we flew nearly over the crash site (corn field attached to the airport)...the aircraft only arrived the day before from Italy and it was the dream come true for the new owner! Hope he is at a better place now!!! Still unbelievable!!! We all should put max effort into training when changing to different / new airplanes to us...

The most promising ultra-light aircraft, performance wise (180-210 kts, RG, 2 seat, BRS-like parachute) in Europe will be the Rotax 915iS (fuel injected, turbo, intercooled, air/liquide cooled, FADEC single lever controlled, fully G3X Touch or Dynon integrated, GFC500 or similar.....) powered planes like the Blackwing BW635RG and the VL3-915iS Evolution...

I hope the FAA removes the limits to that category of aircraft (speed limit, no RG & cs prop) and the EASA allows in the future to fly IFR incl. IAP's with UL's...this way we all have something to hope for... :-)

Until then, are any of these available as a kit, with or without factory assist, so they can be registered in the US as Experimental, Amateur Built?
