The reason they might have had more accidents probably all down to the unreliable engines. Funny how 2-strokes are so temperamental, when they're so much simpler than OHC engines. Never understood that. Should be the opposite. it's not the core engine that fails. Small 2-strokes are unreliable because of the miniaturized fuel and ignition systems. If you make a 2-stroke engine full-size with real auxiliary systems, it gets very reliable. The most reliable engines in the world (ships and locomotives) are 2-strokes
