I'm very interested. I'd like to come see in person too! It's such a wonderful thing to see you doing so well with this segment aviation.

That’s crazy, I remember sending hots out of a 2SP in 2014 to avmats in Missouri - supposed to be around 60,000$…. 170,000$ later….. where do you send them? I understand this correctly you inspect yourself and have the parts repaired you think didn’t look good or are cracked? Now those hots I sent out I believe one engine did not have on condition HT blades.

Why does the components photo make it look like the wheel is not periductular to the shaft?

Mike, I am very curious. How long does it take to remove the engines and then disassemble for the hot section inspection. What sort of special tooling required.

Used to fly JT15D-1As We kept the takeoff temps down by going slightly low on initial thrust setting for T/O (it would accelerate to the correct RPM on the roll). Its been a lot of years so I don't remember exactly how low we set it. But when we went to hot section they could still read the factory etched numbers on the blades
Keeping the temps down saves lots of money On the early Lears with the CJ610s we had a hand hydraulic pump to press the wheels off with IIRC from 40+ years ago?
For those who are not familiar some mechanics call the "circular items" with all the little turbine blades in them turbine "wheels" The last jet engines I worked on as an A&P were on 707s and 747-100s a long time ago.
Keep this tread alive I'd like to revisit jet engine work again
BTW I should have added that your work is impressive as is your clean hangar floor. You have a proper work environment It would be a nice place to work.

Very nice Mike. we have 10 non running JT-15s that we use for training turbine engine disassembly, inspection, reassembly. And we have one operating engine that students get to operate in the test cell.

sulfidation is the biggest concern. It can render blades unusable, which ratchets up the cost tremendously. I haven't done a JT15D hot section in over a decade, and back then, it was $25k minimum, with an average of $45k on the second or third run. That was before some consolidation in the industry, and before Pratt jacked the parts prices.
Check with Southeast Turbines at KFXE, if you haven't already.

[quote="Rick Toth"]I always thought that was like a mechanic....maybe the doc is more like a mechanic? [quote="Jan Ferguson"][quote="Cliff Biggs"] I started life as a mechanic. Always thought those skills helped me in medicine. People are just machines. Infinitely more complex than the manmade stuff, but still just machines. .
