The price tag is $1M+ (too much for me), but the cost is purchase price minus selling price. The last few years used Cirrus planes have been appreciating. For the first time in my life I sold a plane for more than I paid for it in 2021 (I remember because I had to pay taxes on the gain). It was a surprise. My impression from reading the internet is that some people want a plane that is covered by warranty. They buy a new plane every few years. They aren't spending $1M+ every year or two. They are spending the difference between the existing plane and the new one. Some of the used SR22 are selling for more than they cost new. Will that last? Who knows. I personally wouldn't bet $1M+ on it continuing, but I'm not a financial genius. The appreciation in used planes is not limited to Cirrus. I think 182's have been a better investment than gold the last couple years.

The NTSB collects and provides the raw data. It is available for us to figure out how many are low time Cirrus pilots and how many are beech pilots, and which ones have an account here. If there were a bunch of low time but wealthy Cirrus pilots involved in fatal accidents, they would be in the database and on crash talk. It turns there are only a few.

There are over 78,000 BT members and fewer than 10,000 Cirrus airplanes.
It's not a stretch to say that we're 8 times as likely to be talking about a BT member in CT.

You’re not including the cost of capital. Tying up $1m has a real cost of probably $50k per year; not insignificant.

Because I'm generous, I'll leave the bonanza in the hangar and use an 80mph aeronca champ. Let me know what you want for lunch so I can go ahead and order for you when I get there.
