I had the opportunity to take a ride in the TBM 930 for the first time yesterday, I flew with the owner / pilot to take the aircraft to pre-purchase inspection for a client.

I was a little taken back by just how much is going on with the G3000! I love it, but compared to G600 / G1000 it's a bigger jump technology wise than I expected.

For those of you who have made the transition, how long did the G3000 training take? How long before you were really comfortable in the airplane?

Other than the panel complexity what should I tell future clients to expect transition wise?

(this particular client has a pro pilot, but most of my TBM guys are owner pilots)

A g3000 or g5000 is damn near identical from a pilot perspective to any other Garmin glass panel with a gtn device IMO. Logic is identical and any function that matters to flight or flight planning is the same OR obvious to figure out.

I felt like I could fly all the g-x000 planes with zero avionics review other than flipping through menus on the ground and learning where to look when presentation is different.

I had G1000NXI and then purchased a M600 with G3000,spent a few hours in the airplane in the hangar then went to 4 days of training and I felt fairly comfortable when I flew home.I flew with a friend a few weeks ago and he taught me something that I was not aware of.The G3000 is very powerful.

While I agree in general terms, especially for navigation, I suspect the systems integration with engine management and other systems status displays could take a little getting used to, particularly for abnormal or emergency conditions. Where to look for error messages, how to respond, etc.

Tighter autopilot integration is probably also a thing to get used to.

To my mind it’s not whether I can figure these things out, it is whether the muscle memory and deeper experience with the stuff gets smoothed out enough not to have those occasional head scratching moments for stuff that comes up only once in a while.

There are also some quirks. I recall a thread on CJP where the behavior of adding/removing waypoints and skipping waypoints was different with the G3000 vs the 1000 and 600/750 combos. Obviously I haven't done it but while I don't think it's a huge lift, it's definitely a goo idea to get training some someone who knows both and get some differences training.

My friend taught me how to use the pointer on the MFD to look at certain landmarks and it will identify identify them, nothing to do with flying,

I have the TBM 960 and love the plane/G3000. The G3000 is very easy to learn and use. Max Trescott's book on the G3000 is pretty good.
