I couldn't find anything online about the tools needed or process to remove the rear seat from my club's '79 Cessna 182, so I did a quick video of the process. Hope it helps someone out.

When I had my 182 on those two outer front attach points I replaced the nuts with wingnuts.

That's smart, Scott.

Thanks Eric. I struggled with this a while back and sure would have appreciated that information. I had a real difficult time finding the fold/recline release. I sure wish Cessna had manufactured them to recline flat into baggage.

In 1979 I'm not sure anyone had invented that yet, but I agree. They don't even fold forward flat. Maybe it's better in the new ones?

My C182M has a bolt on the rear mid support leg. This one is always the hardest to re-install especially if you try to use a shorter bolt. I believe this one is 1” long whereas the four side bolts can be 3/4” long. It is much easier with 1/4” drive sockets and two six inch extensions. I take out the back seat once a year as my contribution to the annual until I install the Atlee Dodge seats that are sitting in the hangar.

As Eric mentioned, those rear seats don’t fold forward very well either. I use a river cam strap on each split to compress the foam 3-4 times. The strapping prevents the seat backs from opening when coming out the door.
