Well, today I did the Van's RV Service Bulletin SB-00036 Rev 3 on my RV6 and my friends RV7 and RV8. I know there are some RV owners here on BT and thought I'd post some pics of how it went.
First off, here's the link to the Service Bulletin at Van's website:
https://www.vansaircraft.com/service-in ... /sb-00036/Basically they require inspection of the outboard elevator hinge bracket area on the rear spar of the horizontal stabilizer looking for cracks. If cracks are found, you have to repair and replace outboard hinge brackets with new parts and a doubler plate. Luckily none of the RV's today had any cracks.
To access the area of the front side of the spar you'll need to send an Endoscope into the tooling hole on the outboard rib in the horizontal stab. The current hole is about .190 diameter and we opted to open up the hole with a reamer to .250 (1/4") Van's say you can go as big as 7/16" but that's not necessary with the Depstech Endoscope we bought on Amazon for $60. It has a head diameter of .224 (.197 if you take the head ring off...) and will easily fit into the 1/4" hole. Here's the link to the Endoscope:
https://www.amazon.com/DEPSTECH-Inspect ... g=btalk-20 The Endoscope image quality is excellent and there is a camera that faces forward and one that faces sideways. We used the sideways camera. It also works on Android or iphone and is WiFi capable.
